  • · Parish figures come from DCFS’s weekly “Foster Home to Child Ratio” report, published from “A Home for Every Child.” Statewide on Sep 28, 2026: 4,487 children and 2,133 certified homes. 18 children are listed under an unknown parish and are not mapped.
  • · A ratio below 1 means fewer certified homes than children in care in that parish. Children are not always placed in their home parish, and one home may care for more than one child (siblings especially), so the ratio is a pressure signal, not a count of children without a bed.
  • · Counts are pressure signals on local families and services, never scores for a parish, agency or family.
  • · Louisiana publishes parish-level counts only for this weekly snapshot. Reports, investigations, entries and adoptions are published by region (see below).

Trends

Six years of Louisiana foster care

Louisiana's management reports use the state fiscal year, July 1 to June 30. When a later report revised a year, we show the latest published value.

SFY 2024 reunifications were first published as 1,553 and revised to 1,913 in the 2025 report. DCFS doesn’t explain the revision. We use the latest value.
